Raspberry Pi AQ2 Server

Good news everyone,

 

After one of you precious players (who was it again? ;-) jk.) told me that he tried to run my server package scripts on the Raspberry Pi, I took a sharp – but not yet so deep – look on how to make it run.

 

At the time of writing my article (below), it needed some minor modifications to be made, so everything will be working and  installed on the small little Raspberry Pi computer .

 

So, here’s the thing, if you own one, give it a shot!!:

 

I am sure we will make this process even easier in the future and let there no modifications be involved. ;-)

League News and Updates!

We are now into the third round of the league-stages, and it has been a success. It took some time for various clans to stop whining about smaller matters. I would also like to point fingers to lack of interest in getting acquainted with the rules and the point-system, but as this league got started, and now in round three, it is going a lot smoother.

 

Already after the first game we understood that we had to make simple changes within the rules. This game was between GD and eC, and originally it ended 2-2, which would have been a tie. At that time we only had 2 points per mapwin, which we quickly concluded with was a bit unrealistic and unfair. So after that game we added an additional point for the total clanwar winner which eventually would make the score 3-2 and being able to crown a winner.

Two weeks of Reunion Cup have passed, and I think the public opinion about skill of each team are starting to become clear. We saw even few surprises last week! Eight maps played and the top three before round 3 starts looks like this:

License to Kill and Espionage Servers

Our good league admin Durden is now hosting three new servers from Servetheworld.net, but not just any ordinary teamplay or match servers!

License To Kill (LTK) allows computer-AI bots to join the server and play along with you.  They may not be terribly bright (they will occasionally decide to jump off ledges and walk into walls) but their aim is deadly.  The way the server is configured, the bots are constantly learning new paths in maps, so the more you play with them, the smarter they get.

Espionage is a gamemode much like CTF or Darkmatch, based on the American fork of the 1.52 code called AQ2: Espionage Tournament Edition.  Each map has a customizable missions that the teams must complete to achieve victory; for instance, a map may require you to escort a particular player on his team to a specific location on the map.  The other team’s mission is to stop this from happening.  Another mission may require the players to assassinate a particular player on the other team, otherwise the round continues while the ‘minions’ of the ‘boss’ player continue to respawn, attempting to take out the rival boss.  I would like to host a weekly match on the Espionage server to get people used to the game — it’s a lot of fun with a lot of people (5v5+ is awesome)
