I haven't played this game in years and recently came across it and wanted to start playing it again. I tried downloading it off of the main AQ2world page but an error keeps coming up that says: Couldn't initialize refresh: No hardware OpenGL acceleration detected. Anyone know how to fix this so I can start playing the game again?

You could try the installer on the marlporo site, http://marlporo.pp.fi/aq2/software_aq2install.html I prefer it over the java q2pro installer.

If it works you can get 99% of the maps and skins at http://marlporo.pp.fi/aq2/misc.html

Please ignore the obvious troll. Using another AQ2 package will not solve the problem.

You don't have your vendor OpenGL drivers installed (your display drivers), so it's missing hardware acceleration as the error clearly states. Installing the proper drivers will fix that issue. Please check your graphics card vendor site for the latest driver package and try again.

Which operating system are you running? The q2online AQ2 installer should work for just about any flavor.
